The brief

C Results has worked with the State Library on many occasions. This project is an example of our most recent work together. On this occasion, the State Library tasked C Results print and install a large format, digitally printed vinyl print across the Discovery Lounge Windows to promote the Library’s Inside Out campaign. 

Inside Outside is a large-scale visual representation of the extensive range of history collected by the Library.  Those who enjoy lingering around the Library know the sense of history and culture it brings. The printed design includes; letters from Bon Scott (lead singer of the iconic band AC/DC), ANZAC cigarette cards, the Indigenous Storylines archive and even old product labels.

Based on the brief we:

  • Provided guidance on selecting the most suitable type of one way vinyl that offers light transmission and durability over the duration of the campaign

  • Collaborated with the in-house creative team to ensure their designs translated correctly at scale

  • Created an installation plan to ensure smooth and successful installation with minimal disruption

What is One Way Vinyl and why was it chosen?

The Library’s Discovery Lounge is a large, well-used space with an abundance of natural light. To avoid encapsulating the area and restricting the airiness of the space, we recommended One Way Vinyl.

The special perforated film was perfect for this display of window graphics as it offers a vibrant view of the printed surface from the outside view without impeding the view from the inside, keeping the space open and light.

Because One Way vinyl rolls can be made to any desirable length, they are an ideal product choice when wanting to capitalise on large-scale exteriors.

One Way Vinyl is printed using environmentally friendly materials - The technical term is Environmental Latexing. The water-based ink dries fast and its image quality is undeniable. By shifting to these more sustainable methods of printing, our banners can be recycled when no longer in use.

One Way Vinyl - design and installation

The design process took about 1 month to land on the final design. Once approved, our installation team established a final installation plan, at which point it was determined, the best method of installation would be splitting it into 2 sections. One section was a 4m drop, and the other was a 2.2m drop. The fabrication timeframe for this was 3 days.

Separating any installation presents challenges as it can cause stretching in the vinyl. With crucial text in the design, each panel needed to be installed perfectly.
