Swapping Tinnies for Lycra: Chris Hebbard and the MACA Ride for Cancer
For anyone local to the Noranda area, they may have seen an unusual sight on the roads if they’ve been up early enough. It’s hard to see, but if you look really closely towards the edge of the roads, just for a instant, you may catch a glimpse of a pink and blue flash. That pink and blue flash is non other than C Result’s very own Chris Hebbard.
For the first time in history, Chris Hebbard has pulled on some lycra and is swapping his treasured early mornings crabbing in the tinnie as he trains for the 2023 MACA Cancer 200. The MACA Cancer 200 is a 200km journey, raising vital funds for cancer research right here in WA. The Ride happens over one weekend on Saturday 14 October and Sunday 15 October 2023.
10 Questions with Chris before the ride
How much cycling have you done before this ride:
Very little. A leisurely cycle with my kids around the park. I used to have a mongoose BMX as a young boy, it was my piride and joy
Tell us about your bike: Some spanish brand, it’s a hand me down from a friend Pete - apparently its ok. Let’s just say I’m training heavy racing light.
How does a 5am start compare to the thrill of pulling up a crab pot off cockburn sound? It’s not my preferred morning start but it’s nothing compared to the cancer treatment program.
You look great in lycra, any advice for other cyclists looking to get their first set of bibs? Do I have any advice… don’t knock it until you try it
What does your training routine look like? Tues 20km Thurs 20km Sat 40km, around Noranda and Bayswater / Maylands, weekend anywhere I can get the 40. The new bike paths in Perth are really good.
Whats your recovery routine? A good stretch and plenty of water, and a couple of Tim Tams.
Why are you doing the MACA ride? In honour of my cousin Caroline who passed away from breast cancer, she was 52.
There’s not much hair on your legs, have you been shaving them already? I’m just luck to have very fair hair
So it looks like the Goatee is going to - how does your Nicole feel about the goatee going? She thinks it’ll make me younger - but she’s sad to see it go, she likes the wisdom that comes with a goatee
How can people support you? Jump on line - any donation amount is appreciated and all adds up for a wonderful cause.
